Representaion During Books The Naked Storyteller
Harry Tyke is a miserable, unkempt teacher on the verge of a monumental mid-life crisis when he ends up in a storytelling workshop taught by a creative, free-thinking storyteller named Olga. The workshop awakens Harry’s romantic side and hurls him into stories from his past, including his decision to give up on his dream of becoming a novelist, a regret he can no longer live with as he sags into his fifties.Harry says:“My roll of blubber––which was straining at the one-size-too-small shirt I had put on that morning––threatened to flop onto his desk like a fat fist.” From images like this one, to the shenanigans of Harry’s unruly sixth-graders and his skirmishes with parents and the school principal, the clever and well-timed moments of humour and lightheartedness in this story will have you rooting for this unlikely leading man from start to finish.
With her second novel, Laura Michelle Thomas has proven she is more than just a mentor to future generations of young writers. She is also a diligent novelist who devotes herself to artfully fusing subject, form and audience expectations into a seamless, page-turning experience.

An entertaining and highly readable novel about the education system in BC and the perils of raising our children on a diet of internet and social media. I fell in love with the main character, Harry, pretty much from the opening. He is endearing and Thomas had me rooting for him throughout the story. There are many funny moments, as well as painful ones for readers who are also writers and know what it feels like to receive a harsh critique from an editor. I found the dialogue to be very wellHarry Tyke, an unlikely hero with what seems to be a thousand regrets, will undoubtedly delight you with his humour and strange charm. Anyone who has ever felt unsure of themselves, or has ever been unhappy with their life will connect with and find a kindred spirit in Harry. Love, writing, quips on technology, and inspiring the young minds of tomorrow are only a few of the many intriguing themes present in this novel. Warning: do not read in a quiet place, unless you won't mind people giving

This is fun at times, cute at time and definitely enjoyable. We can relate to Harry and his being disgruntled with where life has gone. We can all relate to at times not enjoying our jobs and wishing we followed a different path and we can relate to doing things we dont want to because it is what others think our best. His mothers feelings towards him are so sad to see. And what she did to him was wrong. She was a piece of work. This is a book showing Harrys journey to discover himself again and
If Im honest, if Id first seen this book on the shelf at my local library, I may not have given it a second glance. But after hearing so much about the book, Im glad I took the opportunity given to me to review it. This is a brilliant novel, one that I will definitely read again.Thomas has a gift for creating relatable characters and the protagonist of The Naked Storyteller, Harry Tyke, is no exception. At 52, hes 31 years my senior but many of his thoughts and frustrations are ones that Ive had
Beware of unexpected humor!
I received the book from the touring host for an honest review. The cover and the title of the book is misleading and once you start to read the story you realize that this is not the normal love story or erotic story...since the name can apply that. The story is in direct contrast with all of the above with a unique look at Harry Tyke's life; a middle age teacher with a lot of anger towards his mother and his choices in life that affected him for thirty years. The book grabs your attention from
