Judgment Appertaining To Books Saving Gracie

I received this book as a good read first reads giveaway. His is a very good book. The development of the characters is done extremely well. You get to know the protagonist and her best friend really well as they face life' challenges. I didn't have much in common with the protagonist at the beginning of the book and didn't care for her much. She grows so much as a person through this book that by the end I ended up caring for her and wishing her well.

The main character is obnoxious, the ending is completely unresolved, and the writing style completely irked me.

I always wondered: if the book is about Ruth, then why call it "Saving Gracie"? Then, on reading the entire thing (finally, yay!), I realized...Ruth is a lot to take on her own, so the creation of Gracie as friend/foil (though based on reality) is as vital to the book's appeal as it is to Ruth's growth. Good characters defy "definitions" of what good characters are, and that's what Teitelman does best in this book: create good characters. (I'll let you discover who your favorites are;

I love love loved this book! though not completely objective, as it has personal relevance....this book changed my lifelong perspective.. amazing experience of insight. We share the life journeys of Ruth Kooperman, not just surrounding the friendship and the tragedy that the title presumes is the focus of the story, but through her relationships and family and a struggle for belonging, a soul mate, a purpose in life. I befriended this believable character as soon as it began, not only for her
