Chronicle Conducive To Books Demian / Siddhartha
The timelessness of a book marks it as a classic, and that is true for Demian, which is remarkably relevant to today's political climate. When Demian says, "The new world will be terrible for those clinging to the old," I think about those in the camp of Trump who wish to 'Make America great again.' How frightening the world must seem to those who harken back to the old philosophies. When the older generation looks upon the dreams of the younger generation, they often fear that their way of life will be threatened. But Demian refers to the "reign of herd instinct, a community born of fear, hatred, and embarrassment" as a "society of men afraid of the unknown inside them."
Those who cling to the old ways are doomed to die. But the recurring theme of the book is that nothing can be born without first dying. Demian tells Sinclair, "The world as it is now wants to die, to perish... and it will." The world Hesse writes about is pre-WWI Europe, a time in which Europe had "conquered the world, only to lose her own soul."
This book speaks of the power of dreams and the duality of the world as a force for change. Demian says we must be ready to evolve, we must embrace the new while honoring the old. As we enter a new realm of human history, this book can guide us along that path.

Insightful.this just isn't my type of book. from beginning to end, i felt pretty bored and wanted to end the book quickly. i didn't connect with any character, and i didn't agree with most lessons that demian gave in the book. i still don't know why i decided to read it; i mean, the bts theories were an important role in me deciding to read 'demian', but yeah, it didn't work for me. i can see why a lot of people like it, kinda sorry i can not say the same thing.ps: english isn't my first language so sorry
Knowing Buddhism as limited as I do, I found this tale captivating. I'm very impressed by Hesse's ability to capture the essence of a foreign culture's philosphy and to seemingly embody it in literature so completely..
Simple yet so powerful. 116 mesmerizing pages. Must read.
This book made me think, reflect and perceive in a way I didnt know existed. Personally it made me rediscover the meaning of my intuitional senses because, theres something inside us, that knows everything, wants everything, and does everything better than we do!On the stage of global events it made me look closer to the tendencies of a society and how easy is to live under pretence just to fit a community. How uncomfortably painful it is to be astray of one in order to find your true self but also
I thought this book was wonderful. It really leads you on a road of discovery for the character but also in learning about the character you do truly learn more about life and the world around and in that, yourself. Great book!
Fabulous book! Filled with a lifetime of wisdom! Such a short book, but one could spend a lifetime reading it.
