Maybe it's some poor soul who's actual name happens to be "K.J. Parker", but if it is, he should modify his nom de guerre like every other writer who faced this problem before him. If it is someone who is trying to cash in on KJP's reputation, however ...

"The Shard of Fire" itself is very poorly written. Need an example? "The statue, that which was found long ago, was ancient and old." or how about "The world moved on, peasants grew old, nobles grew rich, and the statue remained as it always had".

I could not bring myself to read even the first ten percent.

It may not be The "KJ Parker" I am such a big fan of and the series may stop here as it seems the book was removed already from Amazon, but I quite enjoyed this as it is a sort of over-the-top YA with enough twists and inventiveness for a quick read - cannot say if I would stay interested in further volumes, but I may try them if such will ever appear

BEWARE of the imposter!! This is NOT written by K.J. Parker aka Tom Holt.I started to worry what happened to my beloved author?! Why this story is so different from his usual style?!... And apparently, someone misrepresented themselves as him. I only hope this was made by mistake or due to ignorance.
