If you like GLBT representation; mystery; and a touch of paranormal, then give this novel a shot. I thought it was exceptional. The characters are all nuanced and fully fleshed. The writing is well above par for the genre -- at points, almost heartbreakingly grim and lyrical. The hero of the story, Vie, has a rough past, and carries that damage in all his strengths and flaws.I think what I loved most about him is that he is genuinely a tough man. 4.25 starsAs my first book from Mr. Ashe, I was very surprised at how well he depicted high school kids and their interactions with each other. I was particularly impressed with the MC Vie, from whose voice leads readers through teenage drama, poverty, abuse, drug abuse, self-harm, suicidal ideation, *gasp* WHILE trying to figure out whos killing girls! Vie doesnt trust people on a GOOD day. These arent good days. Vie must prove classmate Austins guilt or innocence while keeping a close eye on

Fuck.I don't know what to say except that I'm impressed and I might've just found my new obsession (lbr there is no 'might' I'm definitely already obsessed).This took me by surprise so many times, I was not ready but I am here for all of it! The characters, fuck, I love them (so so much already).I can't wait to read the rest of the series! (And yes I already bought the next book despite the fact that my TBR is as tall as I am)

I kind of assumed this was going to be a cozy paranormal mystery wrapped up in a YA gay romance.HOLY SHIT, did I make a wrong turn at Albuquerque.This is an icy cold and brutal paranormal thriller/serial killer chess match, wrapped up in a YA framework centered around an abused and nearly unhinged adolescent with anger issues and a psychic ability to see all the evil in your heart, with just a touch or a glance in your eyes.
